Fiction based on real life

Trapped and Other Tales the latest book by Premala de Mel will be launched on Friday December 14 at 4.30 p.m. at Sapumal Foundation, Barnes Place, Colombo 7. The book is published by Vijitha Yapa Publications.

Premala de Mel's fiction is based on real life and explores the intricacies of family intrigues and personal relationships. Trapped and Other Tales contains a novel, a novella, and seven short stories set in India, Sri Lanka and Burma. The novel (Trapped) traces the lives of two cousins, children of a privileged Indian family, and the diverse paths they pursued.

Premala de Mel's earlier works include Tales from the Mara, also published by Vijitha Yapa Publications and a playlet titled 'Cinderkella', which was staged in Colombo in 2000 and 2001. She lives in Sri Lanka and presently works at a legal firm in Colombo.
