Renowned American artist Frances Vecchi held an exhibition of Sri
Lanka paintings at Java Junction in Great Falls, Virginia recently. Some
of her paintings were depicting tsunami aftermath in Sri Lanka.
Two Sri Lankans, now residing in Washington DC, Kosala and Ruki
Tantula were guests at the exhibition.
Frances spent several weeks before the tsunami hit Sri Lanka and was
so sad to hear of the devastation caused that she decided to do more and
more paintings of the beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, which she admired
most.
Frances said that she hopes to visit Sri Lanka again to capture on
canvas the monkeys, the elephants and the beaches.
A graduate of Cornell and Boston Universities who specialises in
Romantic Realist oil paintings, Frances was captivated by the natural
beauty of the island and has created oil paintings depicting nature.
She uses an intense colour combination and an ardent view point which
can be emotionally spell binding. Lively oil colour and texture enhances
the beauty of her paintings.
Frances has won numerous awards and has participated in many solo and
group shows within the US and in Europe and Latin America.
Kosala, a Financial Consultant, CEO of Kosala International and
Officechum, now in Sri Lanka, says it was an emotional experience to see
the beauty of Sri Lanka captured by Frances so intensely on canvas so
far away. Kosala's Company Kosalya Film produced the Sinhala teledrama "Ugandraya"
which is yet to be released. |
