Ranil Wijayapala
Troops operating in the North of Yala yesterday confronted a group of
Tiger terrorists injuring four of them, Military sources said yesterday.
The incident took place around 5.10 p.m. as Army Commandos confronted
a group of Tiger terrorists in Debaraduwa, 30 Km North of Yala in the
block II area, close to Rambukkan Oya.
One soldier also sustained injuries in the confrontation and was
scheduled to be airlifted to Colombo. The Commandos who engaged in
search operations confirmed that four Tiger cadres were injured in the
confrontation.
Additional troops were scheduled to be sent to the area in search of
the Tiger cadres and to enhance the security in the area without
allowing the Tiger cadres to flee.
Security Forces, Civil Security Force and the Police have enhanced
the security inside the Yala National Park and the adjoining villages
after the LTTE attack on Thalgasmankada Army detachment and subsequent
incidents in Ranminitenna and Thambarawa areas.
The enhanced security measures and the increased presence of the
troops has made it difficult for the Tigers to operate freely inside the
Yala National Park, according to ground commanders who had intensified
their search operation to hunt the Tigers inside the Yala National Park.
