Murali's record tells victory is possible only through united efforts - Wimal Weerawansa

JVP MP Wimal Weerawansa yesterday said star spinner Muttiah Muralitharan setting his world record has shown to the nation that any difficult victory can be achieved by working unitedly as the children of Mother Lanka.

Weerawansa making a special statement in Parliament said, today the entire nation loves Murali. Murali is a child and a brother, belonging to all communities in our country. Through this victory, he has given a new dimention to the unity and human feelings of the nation.

"When Murali was playing against Australia various allegations were levelled against him on his bowling action. If the entire Sri Lankan cricket team did not stand for Murali, we won't be able to see that Murali setting this world record. Murali faced various challenges which were never faced by any world cricketer and became the world's best bowler," he said.

He is a distinguished Sri Lankan who belongs to the Tamil nationality. He was born in Kandy and educated in Kandy. Due to his great talent on cricket, he could further improve his talents amidst various challenges, he said. Weerawansa said Sri Lanka is faced with a threat of separatist terrorism.

Therefore it is very important to achieve a victory within this environment without becoming a narrow-minded person.

As Murali has successfully fulfilled this objective, he has been able to become the distinguished holder of this world record.

Murali through his victory tells us any victory can only be achieved by unitedly fighting for it otherwise nothing can be achieved by disunity. Murali was turned into a great personality by the society in which he lived. He improved his abilities as a partner of this society.

All children of our Nation including those living in the Wanni and Kilinochchi should receive this opportunity.

Prabhakaran in a fruitless attempt has been striving over the past few decades to separately achieve his victory. He has been completely defeated in the presence of Murali. As a child of Mother Lanka, Murali has proven his talent to the entire world.

"Jayasuriya came from the South while Murali came from the upcountry. Steps should be taken to produce more such youth from all over the country.
