Admission procedure for Security Forces' children simplified
The procedure adopted in admitting children of Security Forces
personnel on active duty in operational areas to Year One classes in
schools throughout the country has been simplified on the direction of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said earlier Security Forces
personnel had to submit a letter from the Defence Secretary to obtain 10
points for admitting their children to Grade One classes. But now a
letter from the Head of the Regiment or the detachment to which the
respective member of the Security Forces is attached would be sufficient
to obtain these 10 points.
The President has made this decision considering the difficulties
encountered by Security Forces personnel on active duty in obtaining a
letter directly from the Defence Secretary.
This procedure would be valid for children whose applications have
already been submitted to schools.
Minister Abeywardena said this matter had been already discussed with
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and action had been taken to
activate the relevant circular with immediate effect.
