Self-motivation techniques through auto suggestion

Passing of instructions to the subconscious mind through the conscious mind constitutes the technique of auto suggestion.

An auto suggestion is a suggestion that we make to ourselves. All auto suggestions will affect our behaviour.

Auto suggestions are our ideas that stimulate our imagination. It is our imagination that stimulates our actions.

Your personal planning, day-dreaming and speculations are all imaginations. Let them be positive and creative imaginations. Not negative and destructive imaginations.

When you use positive and constructive imagination as a mental method of preparing yourself for action, then you will be able to enhance your efficiency and capacity. Your positive and productive imagination will help you to store up reserves of energy and enthusiasm for the assignment you have undertaken. Such positive suggestions will activate and stimulate your mind and the brain to act and achieve results.

Mind and Body

Your mind and the body works together. All your feelings will affect your body. The condition of your body will affect your feelings.

Wrong suggestions and ideas implanted through constant thinking will lead to negative action and negative behaviour.

Right ideas, positive thinking constructive approach, optimistic behaviour and pleasant attitudes constantly developed will lead to positive, constructive, productive and healthy action.

Negative and positive suggestions

It must be remembered that, if you construct a negative suggestion and practice it, it will not work. E.g."I will never visit a hospital either as a patient or to see a patient." Since you are using a negative word "never" in this suggestion, it will work negatively.

Try to construct positive suggestion and practice them. E.g. "Everyday and in every way, I am getting better and better" is a positive suggestion and this suggestion if implanted into your mind through auto suggestion will make you much more healthy than at present.

You have to repeat your auto suggestions several times. The more you repeat, the better for you. It is suggested that you must repeat a suggestion at least ten times.

Best time

The best time to practice your auto suggestion is "delta time". Allocate about ten minutes before our retire to bed for "Auto suggestion time". Sit in a comfortable chair, relax yourself and repeat the auto suggestions several times. Repeat the suggestions one by one. Repeat your suggestions day-by-day month-by-month, year-by-year until you achieve your goals.

Auto suggestions can be prepared for all areas of self-development. To become more effective, efficient and excellent in your work. To improve your health. To build a positive and constructive self-image.

To give up a bad habit like smoking. To achieve your personal and professional vision, mission, goals and objectives, and many more.

Model suggestions for you

I have given for you below, seven suggestions that are being practiced by several leading personalities. You may adapt these suggestions to suit your own development goals and practice them on a regular basis.

1. Everyday and in every way, I am getting better and better: Day-by- day, I will continue to be more confident, better balanced, more energetic, more capable and more enthusiastic. I am perfect in everything! I am excellent in everything! I am progressing well!

2. 'I am fully committed to excellence. Day-by-day, I am emerging more and more efficient, more and more effective, and more and more excellent in my work and life. I have a very bright future! I will do well! I will shine well!

3. I am a positive thinker! I am optimistic in outlook! As an optimist, I generate positive emotion everyday. Day-by-day, I am more and more healthy, more and more wealthy, and more and more happy, I will continue to enjoy better health, better wealth and better happiness all throughout my life. I am very healthy! I am very happy! I am very lucky!

4. Day-by-day, month-by-month, year-by-year, I will continue it rise - up higher and higher, grow-up further and further and further and improve deeper and deeper in developing my personality and leadership and emerge as an outstanding performer in my organisation. I have an excellent personality! I am an excellent leader! I am excellent in all what I do!

5. I am mentally alert and physically fit than ever before, day-by-day, month-by-month and year-by-year, I shall continue to enjoy better mental alertness and physical fitness. I am mentally alert! Physically fit! Emotionally sound!

6. I am fully impressed with my progress. I will continue to shine and shine brighter and brighter in every aspects of my work and life and emerge as an outstanding personality. I am first! I am best!

7. I am loved by all. I am appreciated by all. I am a winner! I am always a winner! I am the greatest!

Auto suggestion and visualisation

1. Prepare yourself development auto suggestion in a positive, constructive and dynamic fashion. Make them to sound well. Prepare your statements in a pleasing, pleasant, stimulating and self-motivating language. Define yourself development. Goals as far as possible in a specific, measurable, achievable way. Let them be realistic. What you can achieve. Something within your reach.

2. While practising the suggestions, clearly visualise them. Visualise that you are achieving them.

3. Let your mind visualise achieving those goals. Auto suggestion and visualisation go hand-in-hand.

4. Never make negative suggestions.

5. Mentally rehearse your suggestions.

6. Have faith in your subconscious mind. Be positive that your subconscious mind will deliver the results in the way you have been suggesting.

How to measure your results

After continuous practice for about five to six months, how will you measure that you have been achieving the desired results?

For example, a manager has been practising an auto suggestion method to improve his presentation skills. He was very poor in making presentations in the past.

He now identifies that he is achieving results. His indicators are:

1. When he makes presentations now, he feels move confident, alert and very responsive from the beginning up to the end.

2. He gets a positive feedback from his participants. Participants are very happy with his presentations.

3. He is more relaxed, comfortable and fully satisfied after a successful presentation. He is more confident to make presentations now. He enjoys making presentations.

Final Tips

1. Do not make excuses for not achieving your suggestions. In the long run you will achieve them. There is a gestation period depending on your goals and plans.

2. Establish confidence and pride in yourself. You are going to achieve your plans.

3. Check what you allow into your mind. (Filter out unpleasant thoughts)

4. Believe in your achievements. Be confident of achieving them. Visualise how you will act when you achieve your plans.

5. Repeat your augo suggestion with confidence, enthusiasm and with full of expectations.

6. Check your environment, (Ensure you mix with positive oriented people)

7. Compile a success record. Go over this record and admire yourself. Appreciate yourself! Congratulate yourself! Have confidence and trust in yourself. Good luck for you!
