Massive security operation

Over 18,000 security personnel were deployed in a massive combined search operation by the Security Forces/Police in Colombo and the suburbs yesterday, following the twin bomb attacks on Wednesday which killed 20 and injured many more.

All roads leading to Colombo experienced heavy traffic with commuters having to wait extra hours in order to get to their destinations. Security sources said the combined operation had been launched in order to tighten security in the city in the backdrop of the twin bomb attacks.

They also added that despite the inconvenience caused to the masses these steps had to be taken considering the safety of the public with the security threat posed by the terrorists looming large.
