Suspects who are cleared will be released - Minister
Dharma SRI ABEYRATNE
The Special Investigating Committee investigating into disappearances
and abductions has taken immediate steps to release suspects who are
detained at the Terrorism Investigating Unit and whose identities have
been cleared.
Construction and Engineering Services Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathna
said that disappearances and abductions have drastically dropped after
President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed a Special Investigation Committee
to investigate into the big 'hue and cry' regarding disappearances and
abductions in the country.
Accordingly, the Special Investigation Committee will release the
suspects who are found to be innocent, of the 74 detained by the
Terrorist Investigation unit.
The Minister said that the false propaganda regarding abductions of
Muslims have reduced as the result of establishing the committee and the
Muslims are totally confident over the way investigations are being
carried out. "The Committee would release 43 suspects who were detained
at the Boossa camp while it would investigate into the disappearances
and abductions in the Jaffna peninsula with the help of Police and
Security Forces", the Minister said. |
