56 terrorists killed and over 80 injured

The Mannar - Vavuniya - Muhamalai area has been an area of increased activity in the past 24 hours when compared with other operational areas as Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Weli- Oya areas.

In Weli-oya two terrorists were killed in a confrontation at Kokkuthuduwai at noon yesterday. Meanwhile in Kalmadu, Batticaloa a former LTTE member identified a Thambimuttu Nadaraja was hacked to death by the LTTE.

A total of Twenty three LTTE terrorists have been killed in confrontation in the area of Adamapan South of Mannar and 57 terrorist have been injured according to LTTE communication intercepts during confrontations with troops, the Media Centre for National Security said.

Three soldiers were reported killed in action while twenty sustained injuries.

Many LTTE bunkers were also reported to have been destroyed in the attacks. Two soldiers were also reported killed when the terrorists launched a mortar attack on troops in the Adampan area of Murunkan and Thiruketheeswaran area, Mannar on Saturday (01) around 4.45 pm.

There has also been heavy fighting due to confrontations in the Vavuniya area.

Troops launched an attack on a line of LTTE bunkers destroying four of them in Periyathampane which took them by surprise Twenty terrorists were reported to have been killed when Troops launched a strong attack on a LTTE strong point in Periya Pandivirichchan area around 11.30 am on Saturday.

In another confrontation in Periyathampane around 2.00 pm three terrorists were killed and a soldier sustained injuries.

Six terrorists were killed when Troops fired at terrorists attempting to launch an attack on the Muhamalai FDL's on Saturday morning.
