Mobitel wins ‘People’s Choice Award’ at Techno 2007

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the national mobile service provider, was awarded the ‘People’s Choice Award - Best Stall’ and ‘Silver Award - Stall’ with the ‘Best Display of Engineering Services’, at the awarded ceremony of the Techno 2007 Exhibition, held at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo Techno 2007, which is the country’s premier engineering and technology exhibition, held from October 19-21, at the BMICH Colombo was organised by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL).

This year’s theme for Techno exhibition was ‘Rebuild Sri Lanka’.

Opening the award ceremony, chief guest Minister of Science and Technology Professor Tissa Vitarana, said, “Scientists, professionals, doctors, engineers have in the past, in the area of research been content with producing research papers and publications to get peer acclaim but not actually devoting their efforts in producing goods and services that can complete in the market and raise the country’s economy. Therefore research becomes really meaningful if it benefits society, if it benefits people and the economy.”

Mobitel being the national mobile service provider and also being one of the largest engineering service providers in the country took the honour of becoming the main sponsor of this timely and important national movement.

Commenting on the achievement, CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel Suren J. Amarasekera said, “This is phenomenal because it’s the public who recognised and benchmarked us on the whole in a highly competitive environment.

And also it brings immense joy to know that the public has recognised our commitment in promoting internet, the all important economic enabler, to all which is done with a vision to develop our country to propel to the next level of development.”

The company showcased its M3, ‘super-3.5G’ service giving visitors a chance to experience M3, at their own freedom. Lightening speed mobile internet, mobile TV, push mail, video streaming and video call were among top attractions displayed at M3 stall.
