Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa
yesterday said that Sri Lankan representative of UNICEF Jennifer Taylor
who is alleged to have granted money to the TRO is being housed at the
American Embassy in Sri Lanka since November 22, after she was
accompanied by her husband fearing that she would be taken into custody.
He made this observation in Parliament yesterday. Weerawansa also
said that the truthfulness of the allegation is proved by her act of
going to the American Embassy following his statement to Parliament
where he alleged that the UNICEF granted money to the TRO.
Weerawansa also requested the Government to take measures to punish
those involved in this act without being satisfied with the mere
blockage of money to the TRO by UNICEF.
Leader of the House, Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that he hopes to
submit an interim report to the House and stated that immediate
investigations have been commenced as he has informed the Secretaries at
the Defence Ministry and Finance Ministry in this regard.
