Remembering Keppetipola

A ceremony to commemorate Keppetipola, Sri Lanka’ national hero, organised by the Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry will be held at the Badulla public ground under the patronage of Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake and Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on November 25.

This is the first time in Sri Lankan history the event will take place under State patronage.


Scholarship ceremony

The Samurdhi higher education scholarship awarding ceremony will be held at Rahula College Matara on November 25 at 9.30 a.m. to coincide with the Janatha Satkara service for the people.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya will be the chief guest.

Scholarships will be awarded to 20 students from the Kamburupitiya Divisional Secretariat under this programme.

Each student will receive Rs. 500 per month for two years.


Environment programme

Soba, an environment development programme organised by the Neluwa Divisional Secretariat in association with the Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha will be held at the Neluwa Divisional Secretariat auditorium on November 29 at 9 a.m.

Officials from the Southern Provincial office of Central Environment Authority, Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha members, teachers and children will participate.


 

Trade exhibition

Sri Lanka’s first-ever footwear and leather products trade exhibition organised jointly by the Export Development Board, Ministry of Industrial Development, Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board, Sri Lanka Footwear Association and Sri Lanka Small and Medium-Scale Footwear and Leather Goods Association will be held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike International Exhibition Centre from November 24 to 26 from 9.30 a.m.


Colours Nite

The awarding of achievement Colours Nite - 2007 organised by the Past Students Association of St. Thomas’ College, Kotte to felicitate past students who have excelled in many fields and have rendered yeoman service to the country and the Alma Mater will be held at the College Main Hall on November 24 at 3.00 p.m.

Past Kotte Thomians will be awarded the Prestigious Award Of Excellence, in the fields of religious and community service, judicial, law and order, civil service, education, music and Art and Sports this day.


Boats, outboard motors for Puttalam fishermen

The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry has made arrangements to cater to the needs of fishermen living in Muthupanthiya, an under developed difficult area in the Puttalam District.

As a prelude, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Deputy Minister Neomal Perera distributed 17 boats with outboard motors among fishermen at a ceremony at Muthupanthiya.

The boats and motors valued at Rs. 4.5 million were received as a donation from UNICEF in response to a request by the Deputy Minister. Daluwa Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Michael and Arachchikathuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Opposition Leader S.M. Dhamrasena were also present at the distribution ceremony, a Ministry release said.
