Colombo Inner Wheelers Charity Bazaar

The Inner Wheel Club of Colombo was founded in 1965 and from its
inception it has been very active in numerous humanitarian projects to
serve the most deserving section of the community, Radha Sundarampillai,
President Inner Wheel Club of Colombo said.
The members recently organized a Birthday Party for 120 children at
the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. The children were entertained with a
magic show, games, food and gifts. It was certainly an evening of
entertainment for the little ones.

Officials at the Cancer Hospital paid a tribute to the Inner Wheel
Club of Colombo for providing the little ones a most memorable birthday
party.
The major project of the club this year is to provide Sleeping Kits
to underprivileged children. The kits will comprise of a mat, pillow and
a pillowcase, bed sheet, nightdress or a sarong, towel, comb, tooth
brush and a tooth paste.
To raise funds for this purpose, the Inner Wheel Club of Colombo has
organised a Charity Bazaar on Saturday December 1, from 9 a.m. onwards
at St. Anthony’s Church - St. Anthony’s Mawatha, Colombo 3.
Pelawatte Lions to host 3-day picnic for Vakarai/Vavuniya children
Lions Club 306 C of Pelawatte in the district of Colombo has
organized a cultural exchange program unprecedented in recent times.
Ninety displaced children, between the ages of 5-15, from the village
of Vakarai, in Vavuniya would be hosted by the Lions of Pelawatte to a
three-day visit to Colombo. During their stay they would be able to see
the Colombo Museum, the Zoological Gardens at Dehiwela and also go on a
general sight seeing tour in Colombo. An excursion to the Leisure Land
in Avissawella will be the highlight of their tour.
They will be hosted by the Lions at the Chittha Vivekarama Temple,
located near the ITN TV station from from November 24-27 and all
facilities including medicare will be provided to the children and their
parents during their stay in Colombo.
The travel arrangements will be arranged by the Army and maximum
security would be offered to the children and their parents.
This exchange programme aims at fostering cordial relationships and
build bridges among all citizens of Sri Lanka and pave way for lasting
peace in the country. Similar projects have been planned in the future
and would cover all parts of the country.
Tree planting campaign by Panduwasnuwara Lions
A tree planting campaign by Panduwasnuwara Lions Club in association
with Brandix factory, Pannala, was held at the factory premises.
Over 1,000 Jak plants were distributed among workers. Each worker
received a jak tree. Lions, Lion ladies, officials of Brandix factory
and Director Environment Saman Senanayake were present.
Mr. Senanayake delivered a speech on environment.
To mark the occasion, District Governor, 306 B2, Lion Mahesh Pasqual
plants a jak tree in the premises of Brandix factory, Pannala.
Day with the differently abled
The International Association of Lions Clubs District 306 A 1 has
organized “A Day with the Differently Abled” today November 24, at the
Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa. This is an annual project where
about 1,000 differently abled persons mostly children will be provided
with a full day’s fun and entertainment programme.
They will participate in sports events, competitions, entertainment,
music, dancing, fancy dress parade etc. Every year these children look
forward eagerly to participate in this project.
All participants will be given food, drinks an other delicacies and
gifts. The winners of the sports events will receive prizes. These
“differently abled” persons will be brought from the various homes and
transport will be provided.
This is an opportunity where the Lions show that these differently
abled persons are cared for and have a place in society. This year’s
Project Chairman is Lion Srilal Fernando who has made elaborate
arrangements under the stewardship of District Governor Lion Lester
Aponso, to make the event a most memorable one.
Nikaweratiya Rotary Club renovates ‘Maha Wewa’ tank

The “Maha Wewa” tank in Malabendiyawa village in the Nikaweratiya
electorate has been renovated by the Nikaweratiya Rotary Club.
Arrangements are being made by the Rotary Club to hand over this tank
to the general public.
The tank has been dredged and silt removed. The tank bund has been
re-constructed to enable vehicles to ply.
Apart from this service, latrines have been constructed for 18
families in low income groups. An agriculture well too has been
constructed for a blind family.
The club called “Rotary Club of Shisuoka Minami District 2620 Japan”
has granted financial assistance for these projects through National
Rotary Foundation.
Tissa Balalla, Governor of the North Western Province will be the
Chief Guest at the function which is scheduled to be held to hand over
the tank to the general public,” said W. M. Navarathna, President of the
Nikaweratiya Rotary Club.

‘Suwa Udana’, medical clinic jointly organized by Matara
Milliner Women’s Lions Club, Mid City Lions Club and
Dickwella Lions Club was held at Wijitha Maha Vidyalaya,

Lions Club of Boralesgamuwa launched a district project to
educate police officers in Western Province Southern under
the guidance of DIG Chandana Wickremaratne, on drugs, child
abuse, and prevention of crimes. The event was held at

Lunch was offered to 40 pupils of Madushi pre-school
Madapatha under the 50th Nutrition Programme for children
held under the scheme “Kantha Abimana” to celebrate the 10th

Dr. Wijaya Godakumbura, the President of the Safe Bottle
Lamp Foundation recently went to Geneva to attend a WHO
Consultation on burn prevention. He took that opportunity to
make a presentation on the Safe Bottle Lamp Project to the
Sri Lankan Association in Geneva at the Sri Lankan embassy
premises. Here, Dr. Godakumbura is listening to a question
asked by a member of the audience. After the presentation
they made a donation, and that money was used by the
Foundation to give out some safe lamps they produce free to
the people of Thanthirimale in the Anuradhapura District. |

College Colombo joint organized ‘The Dawn on Young Leaders”

Rotary Club of Kurunegala launched a tree planting campaign
in the North Western Province focusing the areas where the
ground water problem exists. This programme was inaugurated
recently at the village called Pellandeniya in Kurunegala
District with the assistance of “Randiyawara Praja Mula
Sanvidanaya” a community base organization established to
act on the water problem of Pellandeniya. Here officials are
making the preliminary arrangements to plant trees. Martin

Relations) of Rotary Club of Kurunegala, J.M. Karunarathne,
