BoI signs 19 new projects totalling Rs. 7,000 m.

The BoI signed agreements for 19 new projects totalling Rs 7,000 mn at the BoI yesterday. Out of these 19 projects signed by Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Minister Sarath Amunugama six companies are manufacturing for export.

They have budgeted a total of US $ 16.8 mn to be invested on these projects. Edna Cocoa Products Private Limited will process cocoa beans and extract derivatives from cocoa seeds for export. They will invest US$ 610,000 on this project and provide 64 jobs. 80 per cent of this project will be for export.

The majority of these projects are on construction, ICT development and tourism building. Manufacturing projects are targeting more than 50 per cent of its production for exports.

These investments have targeted to provide 2000 employment opportunities islandwide from one to two years time. Minister of Enterprises Development and Investment Promotion Sarath Amunugama said.

Amunugama said they are willing to promote quality tourism in the country. Now the flight facilities provided by the airlines have improved and now local private companies also facilitate a fare range of flights to promote travel to various countries around the world.

“Now our schedules show that around 29 flights reach Sri Lanka through India per week. This is not only Sri Lankan and Indian airlines, some private airlines also give a range of facilities to travel. We are also planning to form a Consul in Shanghai to promote tourism and trading through China,” the Minister said.
