Jaykay, NAITA to train youth in supermarketing

Jaykay Marketing, a John Keells Group Company, and the National
Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) launched a training
programme to empower youth with supermarket operational skills.
“Our main objective is to bring out young people in rural areas so
they could get jobs in Colombo.
“We have organised a special English classes for them so that they
would be able to communicate better,”

Senalankadhikara said. Jaykay Marketing Services will not only look at
qualifications but their attitude towards customer handling,” Head of
Human Resources Jaykay Services Nilush Cooray said.
The training programme titled ‘Trade Certificate for Supermarket
Operations Assistance’ involves extensive classroom and training and on
the job in all areas of supermarket operations.
The training will be conducted by an internal trainer, who will be
based at each supermarket.
The training programme will be held for two years and would be in
three levels of basic, intermediary and advanced level.
“This is the first time a supermarket chain is conducting a NAITA
approved training programmes in Sri Lanka,” CEO of Jaykay Marketing
Services, Charitha Subasinghe said.
‘After the training these young men and women can gain permanent
employment as supervisors if they meet the minimum qualifying criteria
and there is no doubt that they wouldn’t get jobs as the market is
growing rapidly,’ he said. |
