Close battle between Khan, Jha and Mithun

SL Golf Nationals:

On day two of the main event, the Sri Lanka amateur open golf championship, continuing yesterday at the RCGC, witnessed stiff competition between the foreign as well as local golfers to come within the cut off 46 out of an overall of 84 players.

There is an array of Sri Lankan golfers and from abroad, who are within the cut off to be in the reckoning for championship honours, with two more rounds to go.

Coming within the first twelve after two rounds are six Sri Lankans 3 Pakistanis and one each from India, Philippines and Bangladesh leading them all after the second round with a impressive gross score of 135 (68 + 67) is Pakistan’s Muhammad Sadar Khan, who is followed by India’s Abhishek Jha with 139 (70 + 69) and coming close behind with the identical score of 139 (69 + 70) is the defending champion Sri Lanka’s, Mithum Perera.

The positions after round two are as follows:

M. Safdar Khan (Pak): 68 + 67 = 135

Abishek Jha (Ind): 70 + 69 = 139

Mithun Perera (SL): 69 +70 = 139

Z. H. Mollah (Ban): 68 + 72 = 140

Tariq Mehmood (Pak): 69 + 73 = 142

K. A. Chandradasa (SL): 74 + 69 = 143

Jhonnel Ababa (Phi): 70 + 73 = 143

Ku Prabagaran (SL): 68 + 75 = 143

J. M. L. Indika (SL): 72 + 72 = 144

Rusi Captain (SL): 71 + 73 = 144

D. Jehangir (Pak): 69 + 75 = 144

Alain Gyi (SL): 74 + 72 = 146

In the ladies national golf championship, last year’s champion and, this year’s RCGCs lady golf champion Sri Lanka’s Jackie Dias lost to India’s Nalini Singh 3/2 in the semi-finals while in other ladies’ semi final, India’s Mehar Atwal beat Sri Lanka’s Suwaneetha Selvaratnam 5/3.

It is now poised for an all India Ladies final between Nalini Singh and Mehar Atwal.

Supplementary competition results:

Victoria Cup (individual gross score on 1st round): Winner: Muhammad Safdar Khan 68 gross B/B 9. Runner-up: K. Prabagaran 68 gross.

Illankoon Trophy (individual nett score on 1st round): Winner: Danyaal Jehangir 67 nett. Runner-up: Muhammad Safdar Khan 68 nett.

Pin Fernando Trophy (individual gross score on 2nd round): Winner: Muhammad Safdar Khan 67 gross. Runner-up: Abhishek Jha 69 gross B/B 9.

SLGU Trophy (individual nett score on 2nd round): Winner: Abishek Jha 67 nett B/B 9. Runner-up: Muhammad Safdar Khan 67 nett.
