Three UNP Western Provincial Councillors have pledged to support the
Government.
Following meetings with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees
on Monday and Tuesday (12 and 13), the three UNP Provincial Councillors
Duminda Silva, the son of former UNP Minister Weerasinghe Mallimarachchi
Janaka Mallimarachchi and Anil Kumara Wijesinghe have decided to render
their fullest support and co-operation to President Rajapaksa’s
Government in all their future endeavours.
The three Provincial Councillors were of the view that they would
join hands with President Rajapaksa’s regime to defeat terrorism and
achieve honourable peace accepted by all communities of the country.
They were also of the view that they should fully assist in the
implementation of the ‘Mahinda Chintana’ policies to develop the
national economy.
The Government’s recent budget proposals have provided much relief to
the poorer rural sectors. They have taken measures to strengthen the
country’s Co-operative Movement, the agricultural sector and provided
the necessary subsidies as well. They have refrained from increasing
fuel prices despite oil price hikes in the global markets.
Having realised that they were in a party which had only a programme
of envy and jealousy and offered no political future or prospects for
them, they decided to join President Rajapaksa’s Government and serve
the people.
Provincial Councillor Janaka Mallimarachchi who expressed his views
had noted that the present government had selected the right option of
defeating terrorism of the LTTE who had killed his father and several
other UNP leaders. |
