Negombo hospital death: Intern remanded

The intern doctor at the Negombo hospital who was arrested on Monday
by the Negombo police in connection with the mysterious death of a
22-year old woman was remanded by the Negombo Magistrate till November
27.
The victim who was a native of a remote village in Moneragala was
employed at a garment factory in the Katunayaka Free Trade Zone and
lived as a boarder. Her body was found on the ground of the hospital and
Police are investigating whether she has been pushed from an upper
storey.
The suspect doctor who was married had completed his internship
period to qualify as a doctor was to receive his MBBS yesterday, police
said. The incident took place on Monday at around 12 noon.
The police is yet to establish the nature of the relationship between
the suspect and the girl. Investigators had found chloroform in the
doctor’s quarters. The girl is believed to have been allegedly rendered
unconscious by use of chloroform and then raped. |
