Oriflame launches ‘Look of the Year 2007’

Oriflame, the globally renowned cosmetics company that specialises in high quality natural Swedish cosmetics recently launched the “Oriflame Look of the Year” Contest 2007.

This makeup and fashion contest is open to all Sri Lankans over 16 years of age who can take part in three different categories ‘Casual Cutie’, ‘Miss Punk’ and ‘Lady Vintage’.

All one needs to do to take part, is to do a make over in any one or all of the three categories, take a photograph and send it to Oriflame along with an application form before November 30.

‘Casual Cutie’ is comfortable and informal look with suitable makeup, ‘Miss Punk’ portrays provoking attitudes, unconventional hairstyles, daring makeup and clothing, while ‘Lady Vintage’ is sophisticated and elegant with evening wear and suitable makeup.

Managing Director of Oriflame Sri Lanka, Per Gunnarsson, said that the winners in the three categories will be selected by a panel of professional beauticians and fashion designers. The Oriflame give-aways in store for all three categories are valued at over Rs. 1,000,000/-.

The winner will receive Rs. 100,000/- and a Cosmetics Sponsorship valued at Rs. 75,000/-, the first runner-up wins a Cosmetics Sponsorship valued at Rs. 75,000/- while the second runner-up wins a Cosmetics Sponsorship valued at Rs. 50,000/-. There’s also Rs. 100,000 worth of consolation prizes.

The ten finalists in all three categories will be groomed and trained by the former Miss. Sri Lanka, Rozanne Diasz for the pageant which will be held on December 20 at the Water’s Edge.


Hutch awards roaming contract to Sierra Global

Hutchison Telecommunication Lanka (Hutch) and Sierra Global Network (Sierra Global) has entered into their second ‘Managed Services’ contract after successful completion of a 1 year trial period.

This is to set up and manage the International Roaming on behalf of Hutch. International Roaming in a mobile network is considered as a very important value added service which could not only bring in revenue but also can raise the market value of the network.

It is treated as a very important revenue bringing product in the mobile Industry. Hence many of added values

 to roaming are invented daily to satisfy the mobile customers who roam as they are considered as the High end customers globally.

At the moment globally there are 716 of GSM networks (1,060 networks in circles) providing with International Roaming.

Within a 6 months period Sierra Global’s dedicated Managed Services team has managed to convince Roaming relationship with 88 GSM networks in 61 countries (which caters to 164 networks in circle) where some agreements serve a circle or a group of networks. It is understood that other operators have taken a longer period to achieve this kind of number in this time frames.

After Sierra Global setting up a qualified and highly skilled Managed Services team based inside Hutch Head Office, Hutch’s International Roaming functions began in March 2007.

With the successes achieved by Sierra Global team in a short period, Hutch has decided to enter into a 5 year Managed Services contract to look after the entire development as well as management of their International Roaming activities on behalf of them.

Currently Hutch is only having inbound roaming as their network only carrying pre-paid connections and is providing roaming only for the in-roamers to Sri Lanka.

However, time to come Hutch together with Sierra Global is planned to expand with outbound roaming as well.

First managed services contract of Sierra Global with Hutch was signed 12 months ago to undertake Site Acquisition for 5 years period. Up to date Sierra Global has acquired over 400 sites across Sri Lanka (including North and East) for Hutch to expand their GSM network in a rapid rate.


First Choice donation to Hemas Piyawara initiative

First Choice, the London-based tour operator recently made a donation to the Hemas Group’s Piyawara CSR initiative. The donation was raised by First Choice’s staff overseas to be donated to a charity.

Coca-Cola partners with Pizza-Hut

Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Limited, the leading carbonated soft drinks manufacturer in the island signed up a partnership agreement with Pizza-Hut, which is considered as the number one Pizza chain in Sri Lanka recently.

Country Manager for Coca-Cola Sri Lanka Basil Gadzios and Chief Operating Officer Yasa Nadaraja, for Pizza-Hut signed the partnership agreement at Pizza Hut, Union Place recently.

According to the new partnership agreement Coca-Cola will be the official soft drinks provider for the Pizza-Hut chain in Sri Lanka.

Coca-Cola Sri Lanka created history in the Asian region by being the first Coke operation to sign up a supplier partnership agreement with the Pizza-Hut chain. The new move is expected to nurture a winning network for both partners and build mutual loyalty.


International certification for Navam Lanka

Navam Lanka, one of BOI approved company situated at Mirigama Export Processing Zone was awarded by UKAS Quality Management ISO 9001:2001, which is international certification of sound quality production and system.

This company made presence at MEPZ Mirigama in early 2000 and processing their production with the new modern pollution control equipments and well-qualified engineering team.

Navam Lanka Helps to save the environment through eco-friendly re-cycling of waste battery scraps and playing instrumental role in providing the direct and indirect employment to about 300 local Sri Lankans.

Navam Lanka is the 1st Metal Recycling company in Sri Lanka which had been awarded ISO 14001:2004 and this company also obtained Environment Protection Licence (EPL) which is issued by BOI with consultancy of CEA.
