Ceylinco Homes build houses for tsunami victims in Kalutara
The Ceylinco Homes Group has embarked on a project to provide 45
houses for the families affected by the tsunami in Kalutara.
The foundation stone for the commencement of 'Ceylinco Sevana', at a
cost of more than Rs. 20 million was laid recently at Meneritenne Eliya
Kalutara, by Chairman Ceylinco Group, Dr. Lalith Kotelawala and Deputy
Chairperson of Ceylinco Consolidated Mrs. Sicille P.C. Kotelawala.
The 45 families who have been languishing in temporary shelters will
be granted their permanent home when Ceylinco Sevana is completed.
"Ceylinco, under the able stewardship of Dr. Kotelawala, has taken
this initiative as part of its principled corporate social
responsibility programme to ensure that its profits are ploughed back
into the community that sustains its business," Minister of Disaster
Management and Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe, said.
"Since the inception of Ceylinco, more than half a century ago, we
have always been firm believers in contributing something of essence to
make the lives of Sri Lankans better. This has been the secret of the
resounding success we enjoy in every sphere," remarked Dr. Lalith
Kotelawala.
This was the launch of yet another charitable initiative to
commemorate the 69th birthday of Dr. Lalith Kotelawala that was on
October 29.
The Ceylinco Homes Group has benchmarked real estate development in
Sri Lanka along international standards, with projects such as Ceylinco
Celestial Residencies, Trillium Residencies, Lotus Grove, Barnes Place
Residencies, Hyde Park Residencies and Eden Gardens to its credit
amongst a host of other high profile housing projects.
By involving itself in this needy project, the Ceylinco Homes Group
manifests its commitment towards undertaking corporate social
responsibility (CSR) projects that are worthy and provide much needed
relief to beneficiaries.
Deputy Chairperson and CEO, Padmini Karunanayake, Ceylinco Homes
Group, said: "Ceylinco Sevana is another humanitarian effort inspired by
Chairman, Dr. Lalith Kotelawala to uplift the lives of the less
fortunate.
When we decided to use our expertise in property development to build
houses for the homeless, we needed a plot of land for the project. When
we approached Minister Samarasinghe, he promptly agreed to allocate this
land in Kalutara."
The houses will be constructed according to specifications laid down
by RADA [The Re-construction and Development Agency}. To ensure that the
focus of the event will be the beneficiaries, all 45 families have been
invited to participate in this function and will light a lamp to mark a
new dawn in their destiny.
The team at Ceylinco Homes Group responsible for getting this project
off the ground worked under the leadership of Deputy Chief Executive
Director of Ceylinco Homes, Cryshantha Jayawardhana to have the project
underway within a short period of 06 months.
