Budget 2008 catalyst for progress
Budget-2008 being presented at a most
challenging time in the country's recent history would act as a
catalyst for peace and development, Minister of State Revenue and
Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said yesterday. President Mahinda
Rajapaksa who is also the Finance Minister will present the Budget
proposals in Parliament this morning.

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake
yesterday warned of reprisal attacks by the LTTE targeting
individuals and Security Forces. He said the possibilities are very
high of a counter strike to avenge the loss of LTTE political wing
leader Thamilselvam.

'Budget will further strenghten govt's majority
The Government majority is expected to be
further reinforced by the budget, said Plantation and Industries
Minister D.M. Jayaratna. Jayaratna was participating at plantation
development project in Kalmunai, Ampara, where 5,000 coconut
saplings were distributed among the families of Kalmunai Divisional
Secretariat under the Coconut Trangle.
