Tokyo Cement Group Partners with Moratuwa University
The Civil Engineering Department of the University of Moratuwa has
been in the forefront of changing the curricula to suit the needs of the
time and has embarked on many research ventures that have been of
benefit to the construction industry and the general public.

The modeling work they have done on damage caused to structures by
the Tsunami waves, the modeling of oil spilling possibilities resulting
from the proposed Sethusamudram Project of India, and the Low Cost
concrete/brick work solutions are just some of the projects undertaken
by them which are of immense public importance.
In this connection the Civil Engineering Department invited the
industry to partner with them in their efforts to sustain certain
activities initiated and carried out with World Bank funding and the
Tokyo Cement Group, decided to take up the initiative and partner the
University of Moratuwa in this worthy exercise.
Some of the noteworthy programmes to be carried out as a result of
this partnership will be "Mentoring Programs for Undergraduates with
Managers in Industry", "Community Development - Direct" and
"Communication Skills Instruction".
These programmes will lead to the development of engineering
education standards, eventually improving the quality of graduates
produced at the Moratuwa University. Prof. Priyan Dias has been the co-oridnator
of this Partnering Exercise.
