UN day celebration on Oct 20

The United Nations Association of Sri Lanka will hold their annual National Observance of the 62nd United Nations Day October 20 at 3 p.m in the main hall of the BMICH, under the patronage of UN Resident Co-ordinator Neil Buhne and Professor Tilak Hettiarachchi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

The occasion will also mark the Diamond Jubilee of the adoption of the UN flag by the General Assembly October 20, 1947.

The winners of the best speakers contest conducted by the United Nations Association of Sri Lanka among study circles will be recognized and given awards on this day.

The United Nations celebrated the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty at the UN headquarters in Colombo under the patronage of acting UN resident co-ordinator Amin Award yesterday. Here ILO Director Colombo Tine Staermose making a contibution.
