National Green Month declared

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Champika Ranawaka has
declared a National Green Month to mark National Tree Plantation Day on
October 15.
The National Green Month will be held from October 15 to November 15,
Ministry sources said. All State institutions are expected to engage in
environmental activities and programmes during this period. Sources said
that all Ministries will receive instructions from the Ministry of
Public Administration to plant trees at their premises on National Tree
Plantation Day.
The Ministry of Environment has arranged to hold the National
Plantation Day ceremony at Embilipitiya Chandrika Wewa and Dutugemunu
Park in the Ratnapura District on October 15.
The Director General of Central Environment Authority, Pasan Gunasena
said that CEA had arranged a number of environmental programmes to
earmark the Green Month throughout the country.
The programmes will include tree planting ceremonies, composting,
solid waste management awareness programmes, water quality upgrading
programmes and air quality testing programmes, he said. |
