CMC Commission spat to end in Court

Friday’s cross talk between President of the One Man Commission
probing irregularities at the CMC Dr.Chandradasa Nanayakkara and Defence
Attorney Naithri Gunaratne has had its aftermath with the former making
a complaint to the supreme court alleging misconduct on the part of the
counsel.
Dr. Nanayakkara told Daily News yesterday that Gunratne’s action
before the commission was clearly against professional ethics and was an
attempt to obstruct proceedings of the Commission.
Defence Attorney Maithri Gunaratne engaged in a cross talk with Dr.
Chandradasa Nanayakkara for the second time last Friday(05) on a
question of fixing time for the next sittings of the Commission.
Commission President Nanayakkara refused the appeal of Gunaratne for
amending the time of the sittings for his own convenience.
Gunaratne claimed that the Commission President’s action at the
inquiry was not impartial and not fair by both parties.
“There should be one man to regulate the commission activities. I am
the President of the Commission but not you. I don’t intend dragging on
the activities of the commission for a long time.
I have no objections if you complain about my partiality to a higher
authority and remove me”, Dr.Nanayakkara said before the commission.
“You always try to hear the voice of the plaintiff. I am well aware
of your justice”, Gunaratne charged. |
