Launch of Daily News poetry anthology
The
Daily News will launch its debut poetry anthology The Colour of My Dream
today at 4.30 p.m. at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo. The anthology
consists of 100 poems by emerging poets published in the Daily News
Poetry Page from January to July this year.
Head of the English Department of the Colombo University Dr. Neluka
Silva will be the Chief Guest and Prof. Carlo Fonseka will deliver the
keynote address.
The Colour of My Dream is an Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited
publication.
Hard-disk breakthrough wins Nobel Physics Prize
Albert
Fert of France and Peter Gruenberg of Germany won the Nobel Physics
Prize on Tuesday for pioneering work that led to the miniaturised hard
disk, one of the breakthroughs of modern information technology.
Fert, 69 and Gruenberg, 68, were lauded for their discovery in 1988
of a principle called giant magnetoresistance, or GMR.

Essay competition
The deadline to receive entries for the Islandwide school essay
competition 2007 conducted by the Commission to Investigate Bribery or
Corruption in collaboration with the United Nations Development
Programme to mark the UN Anti Corruption Day has been extended from
October 15 to 31. Entries addressed to the Director General of the
Commission can be forwarded on or before October 31.
Universal Children’s Day
“Ekamuthu Vel Singithi Rengum” and teachers’ awards ceremony
organised by the Sri Lanka Pre-school Teachers’ Association, Lama
Shakthi Foundation and the Free Trade Union Development Centre, to mark
the Universal Children’s day and International Teachers’ Day will be
held at the Public Library on October 12 at 1.30 pm under the patronage
of Child Development and Women Empowerment Minister Sumeda G. Jayasena. |
