Estate workers wages raised

Following President's discussions with employers, TUs:

The estate employers have decided to increase the workers' minimum salary from Rs. 170.00 to Rs. 200.00 following a meeting President Mahinda Rajapaksa had with estate employers and the trade unions at Temple Trees yesterday.

The employers also agreed to make their EPF and ETF contributions in terms of new salary scale.

The employers and the Trade unions will enter into an agreement to effect this decision in the presence of Labour Minister Athauda Seneviratne today.

The President said the estate employees's contribution towards the country's economic advancement is immense and every facility should be provided for their well-being.
