SSC in commanding position

CRICKET: SSC have already collected first innings points and were
well set to take a massive first innings lead over Chilaw Marians SC on
the opening day of their SLC under 23 division one cricket tournament
final worked off at Maitland Place yesterday.
After bundling out their opponents for a modest 123 runs SSC got
their act together well and piled up 171 for 3 before bad light halted
play early with more than ten overs still remaining for the day.
The chief wreckers for SSC were the two opening bowlers Chatupama
Gunasinghe and Shalika Karunanayake who shared eight wickets between
them. In addition Sachithra Senanayake captured two wickets for six runs
from just four overs.
Chilaw Marians SC batting first after winning the toss never got on
top of the SSC bowling and were dismissed for just 123 runs. Ruwantha
Ferndandopulle and Milinda Siriwardena were the only two batsmen to make
any significant contribution.
SSC then began their run chase in style with opener Dimuth
Karunaratne stroking a fluent 68 from 106 balls with ten boundaries. He
also put on 90 runs for the first wicket along with Nuwan Perera and
added a further 54 runs for the third wicket with Kaushal Silva.
