Court bars Sirisena publishing ‘Siyarata’

COLOMBO: Colombo Commercial High Court Judge Rohini Walgama yesterday issued an interim order preventing R. M. D. Sirisena from publishing any other paper under the name of “Siyarata”.

The Court issued the order after considering a plaint filed by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake challenging that “Siyarata” was the official publication of the UNP. R. M. D. Sirisena was failed to appear before the Court yesterday and the Court allowed the plaintiffs to continue an ex-parte trial.

Tissa Attanayake, Lakshman Kiriella and “Siyarata” publisher Egodage Nihal Abeysekara filed the plaint and cited R.M.D. Sirisena as defendant.

The plaintiffs stated that Siyarata was the UNP official publication and they learnt that the defendant was preparing to publish a newspaper under the name of Siyarata.

The Court fixed October 31 for the trial. President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva with Sugath Caldera, Shanaka Cooray, Eraj de Silva appeared for the plaintiffs instructed by G. G. Arul Pragasam.
