COLOMBO: Appointment letters to the newly recruited 282 persons to
the State Management Assistants Service and the Sri Lanka Technical
Service of the Provincial Council Service were handed over by Western
Provincial Council Chief Minister Reginald Cooray at the New Town Hall
recently.
Addressing the gathering, Cooray said public attitude towards the
State sector should be changed with new innovations.
“Do not think the appointments you received today are entirely the
result of own capability and intelligence. It is also thanks to the free
education system,” the Chief Minister said. Cooray said the reason for
accepting Government jobs in preference to the private sector for less
salaries was the less work load and high benefits.
“This was also the case with teaching appointments. I appeal to you
to work for the future generation and change the traditional attitude
with a constructive mind,” the Chief Minister appealed.
There are thousands of vacancies in the Provincial Council Public
Service. These vacancies will be filled in the near future with the
approval of the Treasury and the central government, Cooray said.
Western Provincial Sports, Youth and Construction Minister Gamini
Thilakasiri was also present.
