Rs 75 m for Lankagama development

COLOMBO: Thirteen bridges damaged by floods caused by the overflowing of Ginganga are to be rehabilitated and transformed into concrete bridges by the Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Ministry.

Vocational and Technical Training Minister Piyasiri Gamage and Nation Building Minister Gunaratna Weerakoon laid the foundation stones for the first seven bridges to be built under this programme on September 23.

They are at Embalegedara, Madugeta, Lankagama Aranuwa, Hiniduma, Neluwa Mawita, Lankagama Pitadeniya and Tawalama Gangasiriya.

Addressing meetings held in this connection, the two Ministers disclosed that Rs. 75 million would be spent for the development of Lankagama on the President’s instructions.

Another Rs. 25 million would be allocated next year for the same purpose. Lankagama sandwitched between Sinharaja and Neluwa is an area of natural beauty with Brahmana Ella, and Dooli Ella water falls and could be developed as a tourist attraction.

Its approach roads were now being developed on the initiative of Minister Piyasena Gamage, said a Vocational and Technical Training Ministry release.
