COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority will be
established on Monday, under the auspices of Power and Energy Minister
W. D. J. Seneviratne to develop and promote indigenous renewable energy
sources as an alternative to fossil fuel generated power.
The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Act was passed in
Parliament to develop sustainable energy sources to enhance energy
security and promote energy efficiency, a Power and Energy Ministry
official said.
He said the new authority would aim to supply 10 per cent of the
installed capacity through indigenous sources such as mini hydro power,
wind, biomass (dendro) and solar power by 2015.
