Eleven records lowered on day three

SWIMMING: It was record galore on the 2nd day of the 34th Annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Swimming and Diving Championship held at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool yesterday.

The records tally rose to 12-eleven new meet records were established. The meet is sponsored by Milo.

Mineka Karunaratne of Asian International School set her second record in the 100m Breast stroke in the girls u-15 with a time at 1:19:92. In this event Shalani Rajakaruna of Hillwood College Kandy also bettered the existing record 1:24:44.

Chanaka Malimbada of Ananda College accounted for two new meet records in the 200m Breast stroke Boys Under-17 2:43:41 secs. and in the 100m breast stroke 1:13:47 secs.

Yahan Samarajeewa of Royal in the Boys Under-17 400 metre free style was responsible for the new mark 4:32:94. Dasun Perera also of Royal bettered the existing record with a time of 4:33:45 secs.

Eranga Fernando of S. Thomas' College held the previous record 4:35:66 in 1999. The other record breakers were Diluka Thibbatumunwa of Ananda 200m Breast stroke Boys U-15-2:40:37 secs. Imesh Chathuranga of D.S. Senanayake College 50m butterfly stroke boys u-9-37:57 secs.

Hansani Weerathunga of Mahamaya College 200m Free style Girls U-17-2:27:31 secs. Hillwood College Girls U-9-4x50m. Free style relay 2:39:72 secs. (Hiruni de Zoysa, Rukshali Hapugoda, Sandumini Atipola, Nisali Dissanayake).

Shiran Ariyawardana of St. Peters College 100m Back stroke Boys U-15 1:08:89 secs. Ashen Fernando of St. Joseph's College 100m Back stroke Boys u-15 1:06:05 secs. Ghara Amarasinghe of Southland College, Galle 100m Breast stroke Girls u-13-1:24:54 secs.

Heshan Unamboowe of Trinity College and Miniruwani Samarakoon of Gateway International School, Kandy who fered prominently in Pakistan recently won both their 50 meters butterfly stroke events with ease. But the record were not counted as this event is held for the 1st time.

The third day meet will continue from 8 a.m. today.
