Paying off
A girl in her tender years.
Frisking with her fun and frolic,
She was a delicate bud in bloom
Growing beside a rock antique.
She came back home soon
After school in the afternoon,
Was served with her meal
Cooked by her mother with zeal.
While standing behind her shack,
She was hit with a loud crash
As a big and booming chunk of rock
Leapt from its top when exploded,
Zoomed up in sky, did fall
Upon this innocent babe and
Stilled her breath for ever!
The air was rent with emotion
Full of wail, whimper and whine,
Late it spread to a commotion
Of the crowds gathered, astounded,
With hair-bristling chaos unbounded,
Leading to more howls and shouts extended.
No sooner was she rushed to the hospital
Than she was examined to have left this world
And she must surely have emerged in Heaven
Joining the happy company of angels.
Then came the aftermath
The irrepressible blast of wrath
Couched in terms of utter rot,
Of the residents in the neighbourhood
Levelled at the money - making misers,
Ever ready to make a quick buck,
Sealing the babe's soul abrupt.
The rock-busters had used
Ammunition in double dose
To blast rock in double - quick time
In a mighty hurry to be rich in no time,
Paving the way for this gruesome crime.
Once their dastard act turned turtle
The wicked effects began them to startle
They made for life post-haste
Unable to face the folk's hideous chase.
In the midst of this calamity,
It was heard that the father bereft
Was tearing his hair desperate
And he groaned writhing in pain
Since the very first signatory was he
That signed the babe's dooming warrant,
Or, the so-called no-objections list
Of those who, being greedy for a
mere pittance,
Had let the tycoons amass money
Sweet to them as honey,
By blowing up the giant rock!
