CINEMA: Buddhika Priyadharshini Jayathilaka is one of the young faces
which will soon become familiar to you on the big screen. Witty and full
of smiles, the 25 year-old had made her entry into acting with a role as
a nurse in Senesh Dissanayake Bandara's upcoming movie, the much
anticipated 'Heart FM'.
"It was Shan Perera the dancing director who introduced me to Donald
Jayantha, the assistant director of 'Heart FM'. I was chosen from among
many," she recalled.
"The scene involved me and Kanchana Mendis. I had to look over her as
she was given blood. There were several debutees in this film. I had
butterflies in my stomach before the cameras started rolling but as the
director called out 'Action!' things began fall into place. My love for
acting took over. I knew that this was the profession for me."
Buddhika is the eldest in her family. Her father works at the railway
department and her mother is a housewife. Her brother, Nuwan, is still
schooling.
She received her primary education at Walagamba Maha Vidyalaya,
Galapitamada in the Kegalle district before joining Ruwanwella Madya
Maha Vidyalaya. She had been an active student, taking part in stage
dramas like Kusa Pabavathi and Sirisangabo.
She also made her name in dancing by excelling in the Daha ata
Vannamas. Currently employed as a montessori teacher, Buddhika is
looking for good characters in films, teledramas and commercials.
Buddhika is confident of playing roles with scope to play.
"It will be a challenge and I believe I will succeed in it. I wish to
proceed in this field of glamour and earn a name as an actress who is
able to take up various kind of roles. I do not wish to be trapped in
one stereotype of role," she explained.
Not surprisingly this talented young actress from Ratmalana had
already caught the eye of several of those involved in the cinema
industry.
She had been called in for Sanjaya Nirmal's latest production Rosa
Kele and she had also been selected for a part in a stage drama.
"It is not confirmed yet but I am looking forward to the experience
of acting on stage in front of a live audience," Buddhika said.
"I am grateful to Shan Perera, Donald Jayantha, Upali Samarasinghe
and all those who helped me on my path to success."
