Wanniarachchi dazzles against Tanzania
BOXING: Sri Lanka's Manju Wanniarachchi put up a fine
performance to beat Ally Kimwaga of Tanzania in their second dual boxing
meet organised by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka and worked
off at the Trans Asia Hotel yesterday.
Wanniarachchi completely outplayed his opponent 31-22 on points
before the referee decided to stop the contest during the third round of
the bantam weight under 54 kgs weight class event. Ally had earlier
beaten Sri Lanka's N. S. P. Silva on points 20-13 in the first dual meet
held at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium on Saturday.
Meanwhile Tanzanian Charles Mtagwa had the better of Sri Lankan M. P.
S. Karunaratne in the light weight under 60 kgs weight class event with
the referee deciding to stop the contest.
Mtagwa had also defeated Sri Lanka's A. G. K. Sameera on points 32-20
in the first dual meet. In addition Sri Lanka's Nilantha Bandara also
went down to Simon Petra of Tanzania on points 12-21 in the light welter
weight under 64 kgs weight class . |
