Int'l monitory post in Jaffna

COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) will appoint
permanent international monitors at its Jaffna office soon. An
international monitor had assumed duty on Monday at the Jaffna office,
the SLMM spokesman Steinar Sveinosson said.
The SLMM office in Jaffna is manned by local staff with international
monitors travelling to Jaffna regularly. "Now we have sent an
International monitor on permanent basis to our office in Jaffna and we
will appoint another International monitor to Jaffna in the near
future", Sveinosson told the Daily News. "We are planning to appoint our
international monitors to all our offices in general", he said.
The Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process (SCOPP) held the
weekly meeting with the SLMM on Thursday.
A Muslim representative from the Peace Secretariat also participated
at this meeting. In a statement issued by the SCOPP mentioned that the
SLMM thanked the SCOPP for its support regarding the re-establishment of
a permanent international monitors presence in Jaffna. |
