Tourism Act to bring Rs. 1b from Cess Fund

The proposed Tourism Act would bring an annual income of nearly Rs. one billion to the industry, the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism George Michael said. This money would be collected from the CESS fund, which is being accumulated from a levy from registered hotels and a percentage from the Embarkation tax.

ACCOLADE: For the first time in Sri Lankan Banking history, a local bank has received a rare accolade from the World Bank for its remarkable contribution to the country’s development. This week the World Bank’s Sri Lanka office released a publication tracing DFCC Bank’s original mandate, its role and the part it has played on the larger canvas of Sri Lanka’s economic development during the last five decades. This book is titled “DFCC- One among the successful few”. The Country Director of the World Bank Naoko Ishii presents the book to the Chairman of DFCC Bank J.M.S. Brito at a ceremony yesterday.
