COLOMBO: The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday said
they will not support the United National Party's (UNP) attempt to
topple the Government as it would put the people into more difficulty.
Addressing a press conference, JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal
Weerawansa said helping the socalled 'National Front' to grab power will
only push the people from the frying pan to the fire.
"At present, people are going through numerous hardships. The UNP is
trying to take advantage of this to fulfil their dream of coming to
power. But the situation will only worsen under a UNP administration,"
he said.
Weerawansa said his party was committed and ready to rescue the
people from both these predicaments. "With that objective in mind, we
are now negotiating with different forces to form a New National Front
and rally people around it. The outcome of the discussion so far has
been positive," he added.
Asked whether JVP Members of Parliament have been offered incentives
to join the Opposition, Weerawansa said their Parliamentarians could not
be bought over in that manner. |
