Charity cricket match
ENGLAND: The Deaf And Blind Association of Lanka (DABAL) and
Contact Sri Lanka (CSL), a group of Sri Lankan expatriates, will conduct
a 7-a-side cricket match on September 2 at Preston Manor High School in
Wembley, England in aid of deaf and blind persons in Sri Lanka. This is
part of their Open Day 2007.
The aim is to promote awareness for the welfare of the deaf and blind
children in rural Sri Lanka where support is most needed.
The primary aim is to create an enduring impact to the general public
so that they are motivated to contribute to create a lasting difference,
CSL's Ruwini Dharmasiri said. This event will be graced by the local
Member of Parliament to the North West London, MP Mr Barry Gardiner.
Besides cricket, the events will feature face painting and bouncy
castles. Traditional food stalls will provide delicious refreshments and
small bites. The event is being held in collaboration with Contact Sri
Lanka.
CSL's fund raising events have attracted widespread attention,
drawing a diverse group of people from the local community together,
including local MPs, Mayors and Sri Lankan High Commissioner.
It also runs an innovative website, the first ever to be established
in the United Kingdom to assist international students and
professionals. |
