Development with police flavour

WELLAWA: The Wellawa police implemented several development projects in three selected Grama Seva divisions in the area within 14 days.

All these development projects were implemented according to a concept of DIG (NWP) Pujith Jayasundara under the theme "Co-operation from police for Gama-Neguma."

Under this programme a large number of shortcomings that prevailed in Pahala Peddawa, Bogamuwa and Mahamookalanyaya GS divisions were fulfilled. According to Wellawa Police OIC Inspector Laxman Bandara the residents in these villages were fully satisfied with the services rendered by the police with the co-operation of the members of the Civil Security Committees and the philanthropists in the area. The guidance of the Maha Sangha was a great encouragement.

Under the programme, the Pahala Peddawa-Theligamwewa road was renovated with side drains and a new building for Peddawa Death Donation Society was constructed at a cost of Rs. 400,000.

A common meeting hall was constructed at Anodawa at a cost of Rs. 250,000. the Anodawa Dewata road was renovated at a cost of Rs. 200,000 and the Sulugal Vehera Mawatha was renovated at a cost of Rs. 150,000.

According to the police, the estimated cost of all the development projects implemented was nearly Rs. 2,000,000.

"Residents in the respective areas extended their fullest co-operation to make our effort a great success. All these activities were carried under the personal supervision of DIG (NWP) Pujith Jayasundara. Members on my staff too worked hard. The Grama Niladharis helped a lot. We hope to carry out some more development projects in the near future in villages that lack facilities," Bandara said.

Ibbagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Kamal Indika said when the President shouldered the security of the country, the police officers carried out development projects in their respective areas. "Such a thing had never happened before. This is an exemplary act," he added.
