Lankan singers' contest in Qatar

QATAR: The Sri Lankan Coordinating Committee (SLCC) will organise the final auditions for first round of Qatar Gee Taru Dahanaya, a talent search programme, today at the Sri Lankan embassy in Doha from 4 p.m.

In all, 30 singers from the community are expected to participate. Sri Lankan Ambassador S B Atugoda would be present on the occasion.

"The second round of 40 singers is scheduled in the mid-September and the grand finale on October 13 with noted artistes flying in from Sri Lanka," SLCC president Lenny Cramer said.

The programme will be telecast by Sri Lankan TV channel Neth Sri Lanka, which telecasts to 189 countries from its headquarters in Italy.

Channel director Narada Wijesekera will be present at the grand finale.

The jury will have Dr Kolitha Lelwela and Tilan Seneviratna from the band Ridma and K J Chrishantha Fernando from the band Shayara Friends.
