Two claymores found in guest house

WELLAWATTE: Two claymore mines and three hand grenades along with a
detonator were recovered by police from a Guest House opposite the Savoy
Cinema in Wellawatte yesterday.
The Claymores each weighing 9 kg and 5 kg were recovered by the
Wellawatte police from a room of the guest house room following a
tip-off from a member of the public, around 3.10 p.m, Police Spokesman
Senior DIG Jayantha Wickramaratne said.
“The two claymore mines and three hand grenades along with a
detonator were dumped in a bag among some clothes,” he added.
The guest house was located in Sinasaba road opposite the Savoy
Cinema.
He said lodgers at the guest house including its manager were taken
in for questioning.
The Senior DIG reiterated his call for extra public vigilance on
their surroundings. “A major disaster was averted through the actions of
an alert civilian. The LTTE may have been using the guest house as a
transit point to transport the claymores to their intended target.
