Objections called from SLFP committee

COLOMBO: Colombo District Judge Sisira Ratnayake yesterday ordered
the members of the purported committee of the SLFP assigned to hold the
disciplinary inquiry against former Minister Sripathy Sooriyaarachchi,
to file objections before Court on August 17.
The Court made his order following the plaint filed by Sripathy
Sooriyaarachchi challenging the purported Disciplinary Inquiry that was
intended to be held by Sri Lanka Freedom Party against him.
Sripathy Sooriyaarachchi filed a plaint before the Colombo District
Court citing SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena, Vice President
of SLFP A.D. Susil Premajayantha W.D.J. Seneviratne and members of SLFP
Vishva Warnapala, Champani Padmasekara, Palitha Mathew and W.
Karunajeewa as defendants challenging a letter that informed him a
disciplinary inquiry would be held on August 4.
SLFP charged that Sripathy had damaged the SLFP by the acts of
sitting in the opposition while being a member of SLFP on June 19, 2007
and establishing SLFP Mahajana Wing.
The Court ordered the defendants from 2 to 7 to file objections on
August 17. President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva appeared with Viraj de
Silva instructed by Paul Ratnayake associates for the plaintiff.
President’s Counsel Palitha Kumarasinghe appeared for the first
defendant while Kushan de Alwis appeared for second defendant instructed
by Attorney Upendra Gunasekara.
President’s Counsel S.S. Sahabandu appeared with Palitha Gamage
instructed by Koggala Wellala Bandula for fifth defendant. Attorney
Dinal Philips appeared for 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th Defendants instructed
by Ruwan Rodrigo.
