52 per cent water supply unbilled

COLOMBO: Water Supply Minister Mahinda Amaraweera disclosed yesterday that more than half of the country’s pipe borne water supply has not been paid for,the loss amounting to Rs. 40 million.

He said only after he perused the COPE report that he found out that 52 per cent of the water supply was not billed for (stolen).

“Since then I was able to save Rs.40 million by billing un-billed water supplied by the Water Supply Board”. Water rates will not be increased even next year because there is no need for an increase after the detection of the massive wastage , Minister Amaraweera said.
