Doctors to receive extra travelling allowance

COLOMBO: Following the representation of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), the ‘Travelling Allowance’ of Doctors is to be enhanced in consultation with the Salaries Commission (for Doctors), President’s Media sources said.

The decision had been taken at a meeting the Executive Committee Members of the GMOA had with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees last Tuesday.

Due to the high costs involved in importing brand-new vehicles, the GMOA had also sought approval for the import of ‘Second-hand’ vehicles on the ‘Vehicle Import Licence’ entitled to them.

The GMOA had been very appreciative of the gesture of President Rajapaksa to grant its representatives an audience at short notice.
