Book launch

COLOMBO: The second volume of the book Janamadyavedaya Adyayanaya Saha Vicharaya (Mass communication study and criticism) co-authored by Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe, head of the Mass Communication Department of the Colombo University’s Sri Palee Campus and lecturer Dharmakeerthi Sri Ranjan will be launched at Arundathee Hall on August 15 at 2.30 p.m. Social Scientist Ranjith Perera will deliver a lecture on media research strategic approach towards formulating a national media policy.


Lodgings for police on Perahera duty

KANDY: President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed Central Range DIG Nimal Mediwake and Kandy Division SSP Jegath Abeysirigunawardena to make arrangements for the welfare and billeting of all ranks of policemen and policewomen who come from outstations for special duties in connection with the Kandy Esala perahera.

Twenty-three school buildings in and around Kandy will be used to accommodate the police personnel who are expected in Kandy on August 18. A heavy truck and a jeep will be provided to each school for the benefit of policemen.


Earthslip prone following removal of earth

MATARA: The Kalawellagoda hill side close to the Akuressa town is reported to be prone to earthslips following removal of earth from the area.

A telecommunication tower and the main stock tank which supplies pipe-borne water to Akuressa town and surroundings are on this hill which faced this threat.
