‘Govt will not act according to whims and fancies of conspirators’

COLOMBO: An international conspiracy is under way to glorify the LTTE which has been hounded by its defeat in the Eastern Province at the hands of the Security Forces said Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister and National Defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella.

Addressing a media conference held in Kandy on Sunday Rambukwella said the recent statements made by Undersecretary on Humanitarian Services John Holmes was also part of that conspiracy. The Government was not prepared to kneel down before such statements.

Rambukwella said the Government which was acting on its people’s mandate to protect the country’s sovereignty would never act according to the whims and fancies of such conspirators.

He said Holmes would not be in a position to make such a bold statement within hours of visiting the East unless he was pouring out a pre-conceived notion brought from his home country. The Government would deny his statement with valid proof.

There had been an international conspiracy to blame the Government for the killing of Action Aid workers in Muttur and Holmes would have thought it fit to be part of that conspiracy.

Rambukwella said the Government had now been able to unmask Prabhakaran and prove his true criminal terrorist face to the international community.

Although Holmes had requested the Government to disarm Karuna faction the Government had never provided arms and ammunition to them.

However, the Government is implementing the general law of the country and ordered Security Forces and Police to arrest all armed cadres belonging to illegal para-military groups.

The East which was in terrorist clutches for 25-years had now been liberated by the Security Forces. What is now left is to provide economic and political benefits to the Eastern people.

The Government had now launched the ‘Eastern Resurgence’ programme to ensure this. Elections would be held in the East before the end of this year.
