Panora Corporation, a pioneering computer hardware provider in Sri
Lanka has joined hands with AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) India to
Support research conducted by the School of Computing of the University
of Colombo in Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing.
The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) will benefit
from this program as AMD India together with Panora Corporations is
donating a high capacity and state-of-the-art server to the university.
The Direct Connect Architecture of the platform has a HyperTransport
unit and an inbuilt memory controller that is embedded into the
processor making it one of the highest performing, high bandwidth and
low latency software infrastructure available in the industry.
Accepting the server on behalf of the university, Head of the
Department of Communication and Media Technologies, Dr. D. D.
Karunaratne said, “The UCSC has an active research group in High
Performance Computing which has been working with parallel and
concurrent architectures, and the GRID framework.
Chairman of Panora Corporation S.H.M. Rishan said, “Our Company is
committed to develop the IT literacy rate and penetration in Sri Lanka
as we find the sector has high potential for growth.
We believe a project of this nature has great capacity to support the
country’s IT infrastructure development as the UCSC is involved.
Therefore, we consider it a great honour to have got the opportunity
to work with a global giant like AMD and a prominent university faculty
like UCSC.”
