Corporate plan for Construction Association

The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka will formulate a
corporate plan to achieve its objectives within the next five years.
Vice Chairman NCASL Dr Rohan Karunaratne said a corporate plan is
essential for the builders to be in the forefront and to accomplish the
expected goals.
He said the country has witnessed an upward trend in the domestic
construction industry in the last few decades and it is not only in the
building sector but also in the highways, irrigation, water supply
drainage power, airport and aviation sectors as well.
“Our leading contractors have reached dizzy heights in all sectors in
the construction industry and are on par with our international
competitors,” he said.
Karunaratne said the NCASL has reached a milestone by establishing an
Advanced Construction Training Academy as a joint public private project
to develop technical and managerial skills of its member contractors and
their managers as there is a serious lack of professionals to attend to
pre-tender engineering services and monitoring of projects in the post
tender period.
This has led to various delays in project planning and
implementation, he said. A Vocational Training Centre also has been
established with all modern equipments at Payagala to train job seekers
and helpers who are working in member companies.
Among the other projects launched by the Association are design,
built and transfer basis projects at the Ipalogama Township with 1,620
houses for service personnel and six flyover projects in the Greater
Colombo area. |
